The methods and energy-saving tips suggested here are practical and can be done at very little or no cost.

Electricity and Energy-saving tips

A few of the electricity and energy-saving practical tips are as follows:

  1.   Turn off the electric stove sometime before the specified time
  2.   Use induction heater in place of normal heater for cooking
  3.   Use flat-bottom pans for cooking
  4.   Use a pan with more diameter. This will help to use full flame more efficiently and with less wastage. This is one of the very good energy-saving tips.
  5.   Use pressure cooker up to extend possible
  6.   Use lids over the pan. So steam formed inside will be used to cook. This is also one of the very good energy-saving tips.
  7.   Wet grinding is faster than dry grinding in the mixer
  8.   Use solar power heater, if possible
  9.   Use solar panel power for heating
  10.   Use washing machine at full load
  11.   Use cold water for rinsing in the Washing Machine
  12.   Front-door washing machines are more efficient and consume less water
  13.   Fridge – do not open the door more frequently
  14.   Defrost the fridge regularly
  15.   Keep the refrigerator a little away from the wall to make air circulation better
  16.   Do not keep the door of the fridge open for a long time
  17.   Use a box freezer with a door on the top in the shops.
  18.   Refrigerators with freezers on the bottom are more efficient
  19.   Avoid putting hot eatables directly in the fridge. First, cool down the eatables in the open air then keep them in the fridge.
  20.   Use an electronic regulator for the fan
  21.   The height of the exhaust fan should be more than the fan height.
  22.   Always use auto cut-off type electric iron
  23.   Do not put more water on the cloth before ironing
  24.   Use a fan with an air conditioner and keep the temp setting high. This is one of the very good energy-saving tips.
  25.   Do not set a very low temp setting for AC. The 26-degree setting is enough and good
  26.   Roof garden (if possible) will reduce the burden on the air conditioner
  27.   Microwave ovens consume less power compared to the normal heater
  28.   Use energy-efficient appliances. The 10-year-old appliance may not be efficient. We should replace it with more modern and new equipment.
  29.   Buy Energy Star-certified appliances. An energy rating of 5 stars will be best.
  30.   Use LED-type TV
  31.   Use smaller TV, big screen TV consume more power
  32.   A laptop consumes less power than a desktop
  33.   Turn off your screen. Screensavers do not save power
  34.   Scanners, printers, faxes, etc, should be kept OFF until needed
  35.   Take a print on paper only when it is necessary
  36.   Get an energy audit done in the office/company
  37.   Employees (by rotation) should check that lights are switched off after office hours in the entire office. This will avoid unnecessary keeping light ON the full night.
  38.   Encourage employees for a brainstorming session to discuss saving energy and electricity. This way you can get very good tips to save energy related to your industry.
  39.   Use technology to hold a conference
  40.   Encourage energy-saving productivity projects. The best productivity suggestion may be given an award.
  41.   Use automatic power factor controller to avoid PF penalty (not for homes) and also save some power
  42.   If a variable speed of the motor is required then, a variable speed drive (VFD-based AC motor) is more efficient
  43.   A leak in the air compressor will waste a lot of power. Keep the air compressor leak-free.
  44.    Use skylight (natural light) up to the extent possible
  45.   Plant shady trees outside your office. This will keep the outside wall cool and save electricity required for air conditioning.
  46.   Buy wind power plant/machine
  47.  You can buy wind power machines located at any other place sitting at the office and avoid travel. Get this free power for your own use.
  48.   Switch off light fans, if not required
