In this post, I will discuss 52 electricity and energy-saving tips for home, office, and industry. Energy saving reduces the cost and also carbon emissions.
The methods and energy-saving tips suggested here are practical and can be done at very little or no cost.
Electricity and Energy-saving tips
A few of the electricity and energy-saving practical tips are as follows:
- Turn off the electric stove sometime before the specified time
- Use induction heater in place of normal heater for cooking
- Use flat-bottom pans for cooking
- Use a pan with more diameter. This will help to use full flame more efficiently and with less wastage. This is one of the very good energy-saving tips.
- Use pressure cooker up to extend possible
- Use lids over the pan. So steam formed inside will be used to cook. This is also one of the very good energy-saving tips.
- Wet grinding is faster than dry grinding in the mixer
- Use solar power heater, if possible
- Use solar panel power for heating
- Use washing machine at full load
- Use cold water for rinsing in the Washing Machine
- Front-door washing machines are more efficient and consume less water
- Fridge – do not open the door more frequently
- Defrost the fridge regularly
- Keep the refrigerator a little away from the wall to make air circulation better
- Do not keep the door of the fridge open for a long time
- Use a box freezer with a door on the top in the shops.
- Refrigerators with freezers on the bottom are more efficient
- Avoid putting hot eatables directly in the fridge. First, cool down the eatables in the open air then keep them in the fridge.
- Use an electronic regulator for the fan
- The height of the exhaust fan should be more than the fan height.
- Always use auto cut-off type electric iron
- Do not put more water on the cloth before ironing
- Use a fan with an air conditioner and keep the temp setting high. This is one of the very good energy-saving tips.
- Do not set a very low temp setting for AC. The 26-degree setting is enough and good
- Roof garden (if possible) will reduce the burden on the air conditioner
- Microwave ovens consume less power compared to the normal heater
- Use energy-efficient appliances. The 10-year-old appliance may not be efficient. We should replace it with more modern and new equipment.
- Buy Energy Star-certified appliances. An energy rating of 5 stars will be best.
- Use LED-type TV
- Use smaller TV, big screen TV consume more power
- A laptop consumes less power than a desktop
- Turn off your screen. Screensavers do not save power
- Scanners, printers, faxes, etc, should be kept OFF until needed
- Take a print on paper only when it is necessary
- Get an energy audit done in the office/company
- Employees (by rotation) should check that lights are switched off after office hours in the entire office. This will avoid unnecessary keeping light ON the full night.
- Encourage employees for a brainstorming session to discuss saving energy and electricity. This way you can get very good tips to save energy related to your industry.
- Use technology to hold a conference
- Encourage energy-saving productivity projects. The best productivity suggestion may be given an award.
- Use automatic power factor controller to avoid PF penalty (not for homes) and also save some power
- If a variable speed of the motor is required then, a variable speed drive (VFD-based AC motor) is more efficient
- A leak in the air compressor will waste a lot of power. Keep the air compressor leak-free.
